Speedy Breedy is a portable instrument that finds contamination in liquid days faster than sending samples to a lab.
The instrument can find contamination in a whole range of applications that include food, beverages, beer, paint, oil, functional fluids, stem cells, donor organs, starch, ballast water and pig semen.
There is now a family of culture media products that come sterile and pre-populated with selective media to identify the contaminants our customers care about.
Soon the company is have expanding this product range to include selective media for Salmonella, Listeria and several more bacteria.
Speedy Breedy is small – about the size of a loaf of bread and weighing just 3 kilos. It is portable, does not require laboratory conditions or expert staff to either run the test or interpret the results. The instrument keeps a digital audit trail of each experiment that can be uploaded to a PC or transported via a removable SD card in the back of Speedy Breedy.
Some applications, such as testing for contamination in pouch packaged food, can take 10 working days before the results come back from the lab. Given these are manufactured in large batches the amount of working capital that is tied up (estimated at 20 per cent of the value of the batch) becomes a drain on the business.
Depending upon the degree of contamination Speedy Breedy can identify contamination in a couple of hours and regularly identifies the presence of 1cfu in 50mls of liquid so it is more than 50 times more sensitive than dip slides and days/weeks faster than sending samples to a lab.
